Dormroom DesignAR — Privacy Policy

Dormroom DesignAR (“the app”) helps students scan, plan, and share dorm room layouts. This policy explains what the app collects and how it’s used.

What the app collects

Room scans. The app uses your device’s camera and LiDAR sensor to build a floor plan of a room (walls, doors, windows, and furniture shapes). Camera imagery is processed on your device by Apple’s RoomPlan technology and is never uploaded; only the resulting floor-plan geometry (measurements and shapes) is stored.

Content you choose to publish. If you publish a room, its floor plan, university, building, floor, room style, and optional room number are added to the app’s public database, where any user can view them. Notes you write for future residents are also public. Publishing is always an explicit action — nothing is shared unless you tap Publish or Post.

Designs and registries. Furniture layouts and registry claims you create stay on your device (and in your personal iCloud, if enabled). They are not visible to other users unless you share them yourself.

What the app does not collect

• No account is created; the app uses your device’s iCloud session.
• No name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
• No location tracking. Scans are not geotagged.
• No advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
• No sale of data, to anyone, ever.

Published content is associated with an anonymous Apple-generated identifier that other users never see. It exists so that content can be moderated and so you can delete what you published.

Where data lives

All shared data is stored in Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) public database, operated by Apple in the app’s iCloud container. Your private designs sync through your own iCloud account under Apple’s privacy terms.

Moderation, reporting, and deletion

• You can report any note; reported content is hidden on your device immediately and reviewed by the developer.
• You can block a publisher, which hides everything they’ve shared from your device.
• You can delete your own published rooms and notes at any time from within the app, which removes them from the public database.
• Retailer links open the retailer’s website; their privacy policies apply there.

How the app makes money

The app is free for students and always will be. To support development:

• Product links may be affiliate links — if you buy something through one, the retailer may pay the app a commission at no cost to you. The link carries only an anonymous referral tag, never your personal information.
• Product placements may someday be sponsored by retailers. Sponsored placements are always labeled, and sponsorship never influences fit-check results or room measurements — accuracy is not for sale.
• Universities may someday pay to verify their rooms’ measurements. That is a service to them; it does not involve sharing your personal information.
• Aggregated, de-identified statistics (for example, how many rooms have been scanned at a campus) may be shared with partners. Nothing that identifies you is ever sold or shared.

Children

The app is intended for users 13 and older.
